wise ass

My left upper wisdom tooth is irritating the shit out of me. Everytime I chew, it happily snaps on a bit of my inner left cheek. It doesn't really hurt, but it's damn irritating. And the best part? I'm disrupting end july, so it's too late to schedule a wisdom tooth op. I hope it grows out of it.

Fat Boys

Fat Boy Ronaldo's BACK! Haha, people like to use the word "back" when a previously underperforming individual suddenly unleashes a brilliant performance, and that was what happened with Ronaldo in the Brazil vs Japan game! Um, not that I watched the match(NS. Government. Singapore). Read the news report.

I went swimming with Fat Boy Weeli yesterday. Only that he's a pseudo fat boy and he swam damn bloody fast. Our warm up lap left me breathless, and arriving a good 2 or 3 strokes behind him.

Shaun: -panting- basket .. was that your normal speed or warm up speed
Weeli: -surprised- uh .. warm up speed.
Shaun: -panting- fuck.

Went for the Radical Conference at Church of Singapore in the evening. The band - I think it's called YouthAlive! - rocks! Speaker was good. And, it was a depressing time for me during alter call as usual. Something's wrong here. Haha.

Took a posed delinquent photo with Terri and Denise. Apparently Terri thinks that sitting on the stairs is delinquent behaviour. -shrug-

Here's the pic:

moolah in moolah out

I had a pretty nice hair cut at Hougang Mall today. $19.90 for cut and wash in a newly opened saloon- Twister, by Monsoon. Not bad! Nice and friendly hairstylist though I really doubt she was a "Senior Stylist" as claimed by the promotional banner at the entrance. "$19.90 for Wash and Cut by Senior Stylist". Yeah, right. Not that I'm complaining though, I think my hair turned pretty okay.

Lost some moolah at football betting again. Maybe God's subtly telling me to stop gambling.

Going to sentosa with my camp mates tomorrow morning. Times like this(these?) make me feel that I should have spent more time working out. I just had fabulous beer at Brewerkz with Daryl and Jianming. Nope, I don't have a beer belly.

precious metals

so i'm home, and a little poorer after losing in jackpot and dice in genting. now, kids, don't gamble. gambling's bad. gambling makes you lose $. haha. it was entertaining though. just don't make it a habit.

I don't understand how people can drive up and down to Genting so often. Hardcore gambling addicts go up almost weekly. Don't they understand after some time that the house always wins? Or maybe they go up for the nice cool weather :) I love the weather. Not as cold as it used to be, but still beats the sweltering heat here in sunnypore.

After spending the past few days passive smoking in casinos, the fate of my IPPT this morning was in serious doubt. Thankfully, and miraculously, I actually did okay for my 2.4km, and escaped with a Silver. Thank God. I was so worried I actually hoped for rain. Rain so the whole test will be cancelled.

genting

i'm going off to genting, from the 11th to the 13th. 14th will be my ippt, and the day i go back to camp after my failed attempt at disruption.

i attended jillian's wedding today. wow. great food, okay booze, beautiful event, wonderful significance.

see ya after i get back and get out

titled undefined

in this nuclear bombed world i gently tread
where beauty comes before anything
and virgins are few and far between
where power and money make the rules
and god is forgotten, far behind

this life that strives to crush you
a million eyes waiting to fail you
a face among a zillion others
a disaster befalling every other

marriages and then divorces
which one follows the other
which one outnumbers the other

in drunken stupor one wonders
intoxicated the philosophers
churn out shadows of theories
in vino veritas

an endless quest for freedom
shedding blood, spilling tears
i'll kill for gold, i'll fight for love
i'll spit upon the holy grail

black against white
god opposite satan
man the chesspieces
in this eternal game

i draw my sword
hurry with yours
the earth is hungry
for our blood it thirsts

kill me, and all will end
but wait, i'm wrong
life's eternal
and there's no respite.

I'm Fucked.

I'm fucked. Royally screwed. My unit clerk told me I can disrupt for orientation. And I, being the naive and trusting sort, believed him, and happily applied for disruption on 27th June. I had 14 days of leave and several off days, so I scheduled them all within the month of June.

The PAC clerk called me today and asked me to go down to base to fill in a new disruption form as apparently the one I submitted belong to a previous template that's no longer in use. No problem, SAF's being an ass usual. Used to that. Went down, then received the bad news. I can only disrupt on 31st July, one week before the commencement of my course.

I'm screwed. Going to genting next week. Maybe I'll resume my service and cancel all my remaining leave. Or perhaps I can beg my PC for mercy. Royally fucked.

Time to schedule wisdom tooth operations.

House

Anybody watching the american drama, House? If you haven't, and intend to start, don't do it while eating. I was happily eating my cup of instant noodles when the on-screen doctor cut open the throat of a patient to create an artificial air valve, or whatever that's called. Blood was squirting everywhere while I was trying to fish artificial-tasing chicken cubes from my cup noodles.

Quite a good show though. I've the entire season 1 on dvd - courtesy of Marcus - so I might as well finish watching it.

The Prince

When in the acquisition of foreign territories with dissimilar customs and languages a prince must have both fortune and ability. For in the acquisition of an appendage state of various customs and languages dissimilar from yours, “many difficulties arise.” The best strategy in this situation is for the prince to physically reside in the new territory, so that he can quickly put down rebellions and can instill loyalty and fear into his subjects. In addition, a foreign prince would be less inclined to attack a territory when its prince is present. The next best alternative is to establish settlements in the new appendage state. Settlements are cheap and leave the inhabitants of the territory relatively undisturbed, while still asserting a prince’s presence in the territory. However, the worst alternative is to occupy the new territory with troops, which are expensive and causes everybody to suffer.

-From the wikipedia article on "The Prince", written by Niccolo Machiavelli

Sounds a little like America and Iraq.

Musings 02

Staring at the dusty crossroads looking up at weather-worn signposts, the man in the ragged cloak contemplates his move. As the gale stirs up clouds of dust, he gathers whatever is left of the dirty sackcloth around his emaciated frame and squints up at the signs, trying to make sense of the faded words crudely carved in the wood.

Christos, proclaimed one of the signs. Il Mondo, the other sign declared. The man turned towards Christos, and began his laborious journey down the straight and narrow path.

The infamous "Bus Uncle" video clip

The Last Stand

Readers of David Eddings' famous series, The Belgariad know aboout the Mimbrate knights, and their defination of the Last Stand. Instead of throwing down their arms and begging for mercy when hopelessly surrounded, these brave knights choose instead to gather in a compact circle, arms at the ready for the inevitable onslaught of enemies.

Eventually, the knights in their plate mail and wielding their heavy swords, will fall. Their death matters not to them. They die with their pride and dignity intact. They die bringing down with them as many cursed foes as possible. They die, in a blaze of glory.

X-men : The Last Stand, totally disappointed me. Nice effects and all, but it's a totally ridiculous plot! The plot mechanisms require you to shut down at least half of your brain just to be able to watch the movie without exclaiming "what the bloody f."

I pray that Superman Returns will be a much, much, better movie.

Oh, and read David Eddings The Belgariad and The Mallorean, each a series of 5 books. I read both of them at least 5 times through in chronological order, and a couple of choice books from the series at random. I LOVE them. I was 15 though, when I first started on the series. So, forgive me if they come across as a little childish.

So cute, he's edible

I know, I'm a thief. I stole this pic from Jun's blog, but the little kid's so darn cute it's irresistable. She should consider a profession in professional photography. Travel the world, and take photos, sounds good eh?

Fancy earning some extra moolah online?

I'm sure many of you have heard of online schemes that promise you instant riches; 5 digit monthly profits without you even having to leave your home. Work from home! Get rich quick! We usually look upon such schemes with disdain, and ignore them. What if some of them actually DO pay you, and you CAN actually profit from them? Wouldn't you want to know more? Well, I did. And I think I've stumbled upon one of the most reputable paying sites on the net - CompactSurfing

I got all excited over SwissCash, a scheme introduced to me by my cousin Wesley, only to discover with a little research, that the program's probably a scam, and though they might be paying their members now, they probably won't last.

This time, however, I think I found something not only actually pays, but will be hanging around for quite a while. I've no doubts that eventually it'll fold, but for now at least, it's safe.

How does it work? First, you need to invest, or in CompactSurfing terms, buy Ad-Points. Each Ad-point costs USD$10, so to invest USD$50, you buy 5 Ad-Points. These Ad-points will be valid for 9 days in which you'll earn 13% of the amount invested daily. If you leave it as it is, you'll earn USD$8.50 after 9 days, a total of 17%. This will be your minimum earnings.

Every month, you're allowed to "cash out" 3 times with the minimum cash out sum being USD$10. So for example, you invest $50. After 2 days, you'll have accumulated $13 at the rate of 13% a day. Cash out the $13, and reinvest the money into CompactSurfing, effectively starting a second 9-day cycle. These two cycles will then run concurrently, generating an extra USD$2.21 after the end of the second cycle. The figures may seem small right now, but with a little careful manipulation coupled with increased daring as you see your profits coming in, you'll end up making a quite a handsome profit.

Now, like any self-respecting money-generator, there's the issue of referrals. Each referral will earn you 5% of their invested amount. So, let's say you list me as your referral, and you invest $500, I'll earn $25. That's it. I won't profit from your earnings, but with each new investment that you make.

That's about it. So how do you get started? First, you need to register an E-gold account, which works similarly to PayPay and will act as a bank account between you, and CompactSurfing. You'll deposit money to CompactSurfing using E-gold, and likewise, when you cash out your earnings, CompactSurfing will deposit the money into your E-gold account.

Once you've got your E-gold account set up, you'll need a way to get funds into that account. There're many services out there, but the one I'm using is Bank2Gold. How it works is that you submit a "Buy" order form, providing your email address and the amount of E-gold you wish to purchase. The company will then email you with instructions to wire the amount of money required in SGD to a DBS Account. Upon receipt of your money, they'll proceed to update your E-gold account with the requested amount. It's that simple. I tried it today, and the whole process took about an hour.

Try CompactSurfing. I'm in it, with a total investment of a pathetic USD$40. Haha.

Runway Cycling

Anybody went for the National Runway Cycling at Paya Lebar Air Base yesterday morning? Well, I did. In fact, I was already there since Friday setting up stuff. The amount of work involved was - forgive my limited vocabulary - ridiculous. I kept cursing the SAF for having such a stupid annual event. 4 hours of runway cycling when East Coast Park is open 24 hours. Who on earth would want to cycle on a stupid runway?! 6,000+ people, apparently.

The preparation was a sweaty and banglah-like affair, with us manually pushing plastic water barriades(the type they use along the road during road works) a few hundred metres just to serve some miniscule purpose. Back breaking, I tell you. And it was damn de-moralising that after pushing over 10 barricades each, we see people from another squardon happily driving a freaking trailer that transports over 30 barricades ...

What happened on the day itself was an entirely different story. The gates were set to open at 8am, but the guys on duty at to be in position by 4 to 5am. But me, lucky ol me, was part of a select group known as "Cookies". We were to wear civillian clothes and mingle in the crowd. Ostensibly, we were supposed to keep a look out for suspicious behaviour among the participants and to remove them to the duty personnel.

Anyway, the cookies happily woke up at 630am, washed up, and made our way to the fairground. I was on blades and one other guy had a bicycle. The rest were on foot. This narrative is boring me .. so to sum it all up, the bicycle guy and me joined the runway cycling event, which involved blading/cycling along a 15km route that's mainly on the runway. It was beautiful. Haha, I didn't realise my air base was that beautiful till that day.

K, that's all. Lazy Shaun strikes again.
