Fifteen hours! It has been ages since I last slept more than 8 hours a night and now I awake after having spent 15 hours comatose on my bed. I really have to do this more often; not before getting a personal masseuse though, my back's killing me! It's aching despite my best attempts to relief the pain.
I slept through sms-es from a particularly solitaire-crazy friend, my aunty waking me up to go to church, and multiple sms-es from a cousin asking me to patronise her mum's newly opened yong tao fu store at ABC hawker centre, unit 1-15, Han Lin Yong Tao Fu. I woke up only because I'm starving and my back's aching.
I finally got my birthday presents. My lovely friends refused to gave them to me before I meet up with them, so I finally did, on friday night. Weeli, Rachel, Jasmin and Edwin got me The Godfather Trilogy in DVD and packed in a collectible wooden box. Whoah. The rest got me Creative 2.1 speakers for my room in hall. =) Thanks a bunch guys.
And I finally got to sit down and talk to Charis. We did so while the rest were following Jeryd's drunkard lead and talking and laughing at the top of their voices. (Note: Jeryd drank half a glass of red wine and will surely insist on my tagboard that he wasn't drunk.) It felt strange, talking to her. It felt good, talking to her. She's one of few who has a way of cutting through my superficial bullshit and yanking out the one part of me that is worth having a conversation with. I'll find me a girl who has the ability to do just that.

Words
The bad thing about staying in hall is that I do not taking public transport often. And why would that be bad? Because the less public transport I take, the less I read, and the less I read, the worse my writing becomes.
I bought Praise of Folly by Erasmus for $3.90 at a recent NUS book fair. Thumbing through the book, snippets of it reminded me of Oscar Wilde's style of satire, and so I chose it over Moby Dick that I was intending to buy. Why not buy both? Because $8.90 is a reasonable price to pay for good beer, but not books. =D
"i see the disgust in their eyes
as they mentally condemn me
it's a superficial world we live in
and looks are all they see
i hear them mumble, "2.5"
as they walked past me
their howling laughter
muffling the breaking of my heart
it's not my fault i'm ugly
i didn't ask to look this way
won't they stop and see
the virtue of my soul"

Post Birthday Update
Went drinking last night at The Labyrinth with Daryl, Jianming and Qingwei with the sole intention of getting drunk, and well, I succeeded. The whole pub knew I was drunk. I puked once outside the toilet, once in the toilet bowl, and once outside the pub. Had Jim Beam, Vodka, and the house poison. I suspect it's the combination of Whiskey and Vodka that knocked me over the edge; I was feeling perfectly sober until I started on the Vodka.
Oh and I have to note the total lack of mercy on the part of my friends. Even after I was wasted and dying to get out of the pub after puking in the toilet and staggering back to my seat, they insisted on singing two more songs on the karaoke. Wth!! Sigh. Nvm. Oh and I owe Daryl $99.
Also, more friends sent their birthday greetings throughout my birthday. Thanks =) Especially to Shalene, who remembered my birthday for the first time in God knows how many years.

It's my day
Happy birthday to me. To those who have wished me, thanks! Thanks a million for remembering; you don't know how much that means to me.
The people who sent birthday greetings were:
.weeli
.jasmin(my fav cousin)
.jianming
.janet
.xinyi
.japheth
.qingwei
.shearites(whom japheth kindly informed of my birthday)
.shawn lee from church
There's a Chen Xiao Dong poster on my hall room's door, with birthday wishes scrawled all around his pretty mug. Credit goes to Japheth for providing the poster but it's kind of a joke when I don't look the slightest bit like him. Haha. Thanks to all Shearites who took time to write down a birthday shoutout, and also ... for the shampooing session. Being locked up in a cubicle and getting ice-cold soappy water thrown from overhead is a pretty interesting start to a birthday.
Some of my union camp friends, namely, willie, pamela, terence, guang hong and boyan actually took time to buy me a whole cake and celebrated my birthday with me in my room. Thank you so much guys ... it was the first birthday cake I've cut in ... 3 years? Or more. Tong wei and Suriani came later. Thanks too.
I had 6 Tequilia shots; not even enough to get me tipsy. Jianming! We'll get drunk on our combined birthday celebration ya?
Oh, I forgot to mention the 3 shots that Willie mixed for me. The first two were pure egg, and the last a mix of egg white and Tequilia. Haha.
I'm going to bed now. Political Science lecture at 9am tomorrow morning.
Thanks for everything guys. I've yet to receive my presents though. Start sending them! :D

Sleepily posting links
Googling for Mr Brown's "Mai Hum" inadvertently brought to some local blogs that turned out to be, really, really insightful. I'm surprised the authors are still in posessionof their wealth.
Anyway, check out:
Mr Wang's entries that I read, here and here
And this other blog here

I had a national day dinner at Sheares Hall on Thursday, and here's a pic
